‘Nurture fresh thinking for a healthy world’

Schools Outreach Program

Ensuring accessibility to our program is central to our vision and mission. To achieve this we offer a Schools Outreach Program to public schools in communities where cost is a prohibitive factor for engaging specialist, external education programs. Working with funding partners, our goal is to generate more opportunities to offer our program free of charge in communities where there are diverse and complex instances of disadvantage.

About the Program

The Seed Harvest Spoon ‘Schools Outreach Program’ provides high-quality, integrated, environmental education lessons to children from Kinder to Year 6. Working with students we establish an organic school garden and use this as a catalyst for learning. Students develop skills and knowledge in:

  • environmental sustainability and the natural world

  • growing food and developing food security

  • healthy cooking and nutrition literacy

  • extension and special interest projects

The ‘Schools Outreach Program’ makes clear and specific links to curriculum objectives and outcomes, delivering structured learning outcomes for the students as well as impacting health, wellbeing and life-skill development. The Program has been designed to encompass literacy, science, numeracy, creativity, health and connections to nature.

All lessons are hands-on and led by education and community development professionals. Our educators are dedicated to creating fun, engaging learning spaces for children and mentoring opportunities for their teachers.

Community engagement and events are included in the program. School families and the surrounding community are invited to participate through working bees, community harvest and feast events.
